about

Synth(esis)

Synth (esis)
From the Greek σύνϑεσις (synthesis) "composition", which derives from the Greek συντίϑημι (sintithēmi) "put together", the synthesis, as its etymology highlights, allows to put together multiple elements and concepts, even very different, which then merge to create new messages. The Synth (esis) project encompasses the concept of synthesis in the musical field through the combination and fusion of ancient African rhythms and sounds and the new modern synths. It is my first solo musical experiment as a drummer and composer and was born during the isolation imposed by the COVID-19 emergency. Music becomes the only way to escape from isolation and to travel in search of all the old musical inputs that I try to "synthesize" with the new ones, the synths, rediscovered during the coronavirus lockdown. The main tool for this process is the computer, the only "means of transport" that allows a regenerating journey through synths and sound manipulation. The computer is also the "artificial" performer who accompanies my performance on the drums through a personal interpretation that aims to convey the musical message with the intention of making it as "human" as possible. Also Mario Meloni's contribution in “Little Fabius” becomes precious to reach this aim when plays a guitar part that integrates perfectly with the sound of the track. All compositions are inspired by the traditional rhythms of Mali and North Africa: on Barà Sanja and Funk Report the rhythmic patterns of African doundouns are transported and interpreted on drums in a personal and current way, while on "Little Fabius" and "Afro Shuffle" you can hear the rhythms thanks to the fantastic African percussion played live.
